EN 300 440 Short Range Devices (SRD) - Radio Equipment to be Used in the Frequency Range of 1 GHz to 40 GHz

EUROLAB, together with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 300 440 testing. The EN 300 440 standard, developed by the European Telecommunication Standards Committee (ETSI), describes the technical specifications and measurement methods for the following equipment types:

EN 300 440 Short Range Devices (SRD) - Radio Equipment to be Used in the Frequency Range of 1 GHz to 40 GHz

  • Non-specific short range devices, including alarms, telecommand, telemetry, data transmission in general, and the like;
  • Radio frequency identification (RFID) devices;
  • Radio detection devices with sensing, motion and warning applications.

These types of radio equipment can operate in the permitted frequency bands in the 1 GHz to 40 GHz range as specified in the table given in the standard, with a radio frequency output link and a dedicated antenna or integrated antenna.

The table in question contains a list of frequency bands known at the time of publication of this standard, with the decisions of the European Commission on short range devices and the recommendation of the European Research Council (ERC) of the European Post and Telecommunications Conference (CEPT).

Short range devices are radio devices that generally offer a low risk of interference with other radio services because of their low transmitted power and therefore their range.

The short-range device designation can be applied to many different types of wireless equipment, including in various forms: access control, alarms and motion detectors, closed-circuit television, wireless audio equipment including wireless microphones, industrial control, local area networks, medical implants, measuring devices, remote control and radio frequency identification (RFID).

These devices generally enjoy a relaxed regulatory regime compared to other radio communication devices. As a general principle, a user is unlicensed to operate such equipment. However, like all radio devices, short range devices must comply with the radio equipment directive in order to be put on the market in European Union countries. The operation of the equipment is subject to the frequency management regulations of the respective Member State.
