The EN 301 489 standard covers the evaluation of 2,4 GHz broadband transmission. Transmission System equipment is used in terms of electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) 5 GHz high performance RLAN (including HIPERLAN 1, 2 and others) including Systems and Broadband Data.

The EN 301 489 standard specifies measurement methods and technical specifications for radio equipment and related auxiliary equipment, excluding broadcast receivers, in terms of electromagnetic compatibility. Specifications for emissions radiated from the antenna port of the radio equipment and from the shield port of the radio equipment, and combinations of radio and ancillary equipment are not included in this document. Such specifications are normally found in the relevant product standards for effective use of the radio spectrum. Specifications regarding emissions from the antenna port and the enclosure port of the radio equipment are not included in the present document. Such technical specifications are found in the relevant product standards.

The present document may not cover situations where there is a radar or broadcast field in the immediate vicinity, where a potential source of interference is permanently present, producing discrete repetitive transients or a sustained phenomenon. In such a case, it may be necessary to use special protection applied to the source of interference or the part being interfered with, or both. In all cases where a radio product falls within the scope of a particular radio technology part of the standard, the relevant radio technology part takes precedence.

Compliance with the requirements of this document does not imply compliance with any security requirements. However, it is the responsibility of the person evaluating the equipment to record any relevant observations in the test report. If the test sample becomes dangerous or unsafe as a result of the application of the tests requested in the current situation, it is stated in the document.
