IEC EN 61260-3 describes procedures for periodic testing of octave band and fractional octave band filters designed to comply with the class 61260 or class 1 specifications given in IEC EN 1-2. The purpose of this standard is to ensure that periodic tests are performed consistently by all laboratories.
The purpose of periodic testing is to assure the user that the performance of an octave band and fractional octave band filter conforms to the applicable IEC EN 61260-1 specifications for ambient conditions where a limited number of essential tests and tests are performed. The scope of testing in this standard is intentionally limited to the minimum required for periodic testing.
The periodic tests described in this standard are valid for filters that the manufacturer claims to comply with the specifications in IEC EN 61260-1. Periodic tests in this standard are valid for filters with or without model approval by an independent testing organization responsible for model approvals according to IEC EN 61260-2 test procedures.
Due to the limited scope of periodic testing, if evidence of model approval is not publicly available, no general conclusions can be drawn about compliance with IEC EN 61260-1 specifications, even if the results of the periodic testing comply with all applicable requirements.
If the filter does not meet the mandatory features listed in IEC EN 61260-1, including an overload indicator and means of checking that the power supply is adequate for battery powered tools including the filter, the filter does not comply with IEC EN 61260 specifications.
