EN 50498 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Product Family Standard for Aftermarket Electronic Equipment in Vehicles

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50498 standard. This European standard specifies the measurement limits and methods for the degradation emissions and immunity properties of non-immune aftermarket equipment (ESA) referred to in the automotive EMC directive, Annex I, 3.2.9.

Any equipment (or part of an ESA) whose primary function is to transmit or receive radio according to ITU Radio regulations is outside the scope of this publication. This European standard covers the frequency range from 9 kHz to 400 GHz. To date, it specifies the limits and methods of measurement for transmitted and radiated disturbances from ESAs in the frequency range 30 MHz to 1 GHz, and immunity requirements for transmitted transients.

An ESA assessment should only be performed in the frequency ranges where the limits are defined. The emission requirements have been chosen to ensure that the disturbances produced by normally operating ESAs do not exceed a level that could prevent the vehicle or apparatus outside the vehicle from functioning as intended. Fault conditions are not taken into account.
