EN 50529-1 EMC Network Standard - Part 1: Test Standard for Wired Telecommunications Networks Using Telephone Cables

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 50529-1 testing. This EMC standard refers to harmonized EMC product standards and other standards that have EMC requirements together with good engineering practices, specifying the requirements for emissions from and immunity of wired telecommunications networks using telephone cables, including their internal extensions.

EN 50529-1 EMC Network Standard - Part 1: Test Standard for Wired Telecommunications Networks Using Telephone Cables

This standard covers the frequency range from 9 kHz to 400 GHz. Evaluation of a network should only be carried out in the frequency ranges where limits are defined in the relevant product standards. The emission limits set in this standard do not apply to emissions required from embedded radio links within the network. The requirements do not exceed a level at which electromagnetic disturbances produced by a network or parts of it, normal operation, radio and telecommunications equipment, or other equipment cannot function as intended. Network fault conditions are not taken into account.

This standard is part of a multipart EMC standard that sets limits and measurement methods for emissions from wired telecommunications networks and the immunity of these networks through references to harmonized product standards with good engineering practice.

Assuming the device meets the EMC requirements defined in the applicable EMC product standards, a network or a network segment using telephone cables is considered compliant with the current standard if:

  • When all devices are first connected directly to the network or network segment, they meet the requirements for both emission and immunity, defined in the version of the EMC product standards applicable at the time of the device, taking into account the characteristics of the network;
  • The apparatus is installed according to the manufacturer's instructions;
  • The network or network segment has been created, configured, and maintained according to good engineering practice to ensure electromagnetic compatibility, and this practice is documented.
