This subclause specifies the modulation of a binary data string ("incoming data") into a recording signal waveform ("output waveform"). Bits 12 through 16 and subsequent bits up to the next Synchronization/Control word are encoded in HDM-1. Bits 12 and 13 carry a 2-bit block address that increments with each new block. Bits 14 to 16 are reserved for storing accent bits, control information, other auxiliary information, and timecode pointers. The value 00 is specified for bits 14 and 15 until further recognition.
Error detection is made possible by the CRC control word recorded for each block of each trace and the P and Q control words of each trace. Error correction is made possible by the P and Q words of each part.
