ETSI EN 300 386 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Requirements Harmonized Standard Covering the Essential Requirements of the EU Directive

The ETSI EN 300 386 standard covers EMC requirements for non-radio equipment intended for use in a public telecommunications network providing telecommunications between Network Termination Points (NTPs).

Examples of such equipment are local telephone exchanges, remote switching concentrators, international switches, telex switches, network packet switches, base station controllers, radio network controllers, network servers and gateways.

The requirements of this document have been chosen to provide an adequate level of immunity for the apparatus covered by this document. However, the levels do not cover extreme situations that can occur anywhere but have a low probability of occurring. In special circumstances, there may be situations where degradation levels may exceed the immunoassay levels specified in this document. In these cases, special mitigation measures may need to be implemented.

General-purpose equipment used as part of a telecommunications network may fall within the scope of other standards. For this type of equipment, no further evaluation is required if these other standards fully cover the requirements of this document. Equipment covered by CENELEC EN 50083-2 [3] may require additional testing at the relevant RF ports.

The equipment can provide different functions, i.e. switching equipment, storage capabilities, etc. can provide. All existing functions of the EUT will be tested.
