IEC 61800-3 Adjustable Speed ​​Electric Power Drive Systems - EMC Requirements and Special Test Methods

IEC 61800-3 specifies electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for power propulsion systems. These are adjustable speed AC or DC motor drives.

Requirements are specified for PDSs with converter input or output voltages (line-to-line voltage) up to 35 kV AC RMS. This edition constitutes a technical revision.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

• Clarifying test report requirements, particularly where a range of alternative test methods are available;
• Introducing a more detailed test setup for radiated emission measurements, with the introduction of a measuring distance of 3 m for small-sized equipment;
• General updates in informational supplements.

The scope of this section of IEC 61800 on EMC includes a wide range of PDS from a few hundred watts to hundreds of megawatts. PDSs are often included in a larger system. The system aspect is not covered by this document, but guidance is provided in the informative appendices.

The requirements have been chosen to provide EMC for PDSs in residential, commercial and industrial locations. However, the requirements cannot cover extreme situations that are extremely unlikely to occur. Changes in the EMC behavior of a PDS as a result of fault conditions are not considered.
