IEC EN 55103-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility - Test for Audio-Visual and Entertainment Lighting Controllers

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 55103-2 test. This European Standard for EMC immunity requirements applies to professional audio, video, audio-visual and entertainment lighting control devices. Distortions in the 0 Hz to 400 GHz frequency range are covered, but requirements for this entire range have not been established.

IEC EN 55103-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility - Test for Audio-Visual and Entertainment Lighting Controllers

The purpose of this standard is to define immunity test requirements, test signals, performance criteria, and test methods for devices defined in scope with regard to electromagnetic immunity to permanent and transient conducted and radiated electromagnetic disturbances, including electrostatic discharges. These test requirements represent basic electromagnetic compatibility requirements.

This European Standard does not apply to:

  • consumer apparatus;
  • Apparatuses specially designed for security systems;
  • Devices designed to emit electromagnetic energy for radio communication purposes.

The manufacturer shall provide details of any deterioration in performance or loss of function during or as a result of each test, which should be specified in the test report, based on the following criteria:

Performance criterion A: The device will continue to work as intended. No degradation of performance or loss of function is permitted below the performance level specified by the manufacturer when the apparatus is used as intended. The performance level can be changed with a permissible loss of performance. If the minimum performance level or allowable performance loss is not specified by the manufacturer, any of these can be derived from the product description and documentation (including brochures and advertisements) and what the user can reasonably expect from the device when used as intended.

Performance criterion B: The apparatus should continue to function as intended after the test. No degradation of performance or loss of function is permitted below the performance level specified by the manufacturer when the apparatus is used as intended. The performance level can be changed with a permissible loss of performance. However, performance is allowed to degrade during testing. Changing the actual operating state or stored data is not allowed. If the minimum performance level or allowable performance loss is not specified by the manufacturer, any of these can be derived from the product description and documentation (including brochures and advertisements) and what the user can reasonably expect from the device when used as intended.

Performance criterion C: Temporary loss of function is allowed provided that normal function is automatically restored when the test alert is removed, or can be restored by running the controls.

This standard refers to reproducible laboratory conditions that may not always accurately represent conditions found in practice. Considering the electrical characteristics and use of a particular apparatus, some tests may be determined to be inappropriate and therefore unnecessary. In this case, the decision not to test and its justification are recorded in the test report.
