IEC EN 60077-3 Railway Applications - Electrical Equipment for Railway Vehicles - Part 3: Electrotechnical Components - Rules for DC Circuit Breakers

IEC EN 60077-3 gives the rules for breakers whose main contacts are connected to DC power or auxiliary circuits. The rated voltage of these circuits does not exceed 60850 V DC according to IEC EN 3000.

This part of IEC EN 60077 together with IEC EN 60077-2 specifically states:

• Features of circuit breakers;
• Operation and behavior in normal service;
• Operation and behavior in case of short circuit;
• dielectric properties;
• Tests to verify the conformity of components to specifications in service conditions and the methods to be adopted for these tests;
• Information to be marked on the circuit breaker or supplied with the breaker.

This standard does not cover:

• Multiple connection of electrotechnical components to fulfill a specific task;
• Industrial circuit breakers complying with IEC EN 60947-2;
• DC circuit breakers for fixed installations in compliance with IEC EN 61992-2.

For the last two clauses, this standard is used only to specify specific requirements for wagons, in order to ensure satisfactory operation. In such cases, a special document specifies the additional requirements that industrial or fixed installation circuit breakers comply with.

Nominal values ​​are assigned by the manufacturer, but not all listed values ​​need to be created. The time constants for the circuit breaker depend on the electrical characteristics of the substation, line and load.
