IEC EN 60118-0 gives recommendations for measuring the performance characteristics of airway hearing aids based on the free field technique and measured with an acoustic coupler.
This part of IEC EN 60118 is applicable to the measurement and evaluation of the electroacoustic properties of hearing aids, for example for type testing and manufacturer data sheets.
Test results obtained using the methods specified in this part of IEC EN 60118 will represent performance under test conditions and may deviate significantly from hearing aid performance under actual conditions of use.
This part of IEC EN 60118 uses an acoustic coupler in accordance with IEC EN 60318-5; this is only intended to load a hearing aid with a given acoustic impedance and is not intended to model the sound pressure in a person's ear. Use of this acoustic coupler will yield different results than those obtained using the plugged ear simulator of IEC EN 60118-0 used in previous versions of IEC EN 60318-4.
IEC EN 60118-8 can be used to measure the performance characteristics of hearing aids for simulated on-site operating conditions. IEC EN 60118-15 can be used to measure hearing aids under typical user settings and using a speech-like signal.
IEC EN 60118-7 can be used to measure the performance characteristics of hearing aids for production, supply and delivery quality assurance purposes. The frequency range has been extended to 60118 kHz in this part of IEC EN 7 as opposed to 5 kHz in IEC EN 60118-8.
While the number of measurements covered by this part of IEC EN 60118 is limited, not all measurements described here are intended to be mandatory. For custom-made in-ear devices, the data provided by the manufacturer applies only to the specific hearing aid under test.
