This part of IEC EN 60118 gives recommendations for measuring the performance characteristics of a particular model of airline hearing aids for production, supply and delivery quality assurance purposes. The manufacturer will normally assign nominal values.
This standard is not related to mechanical or environmental testing. In general, it should not be used as a basis for exchanging information about hearing aid characteristics and is not intended to be used as a predictor of real-ear performance.
While the number of measurements covered by this standard is limited, not all measurements described here are intended to be made in all cases.
The preferred acoustic test procedure is based on a measurement method in which the sound pressure level at the reference point of the hearing aid is kept constant. This is performed in an acoustic test box using a pressure-regulated control microphone, assuming that the sound field is homogeneous around the reference point of the hearing aid.
Undesirable stimuli in the test box, such as ambient noise, mechanical vibrations, and electrical or magnetic leakage fields, should be low enough that they do not affect the test results by more than 0,5 dB. This can be verified if the output level of the hearing aid drops by at least 10 dB when the signal source is turned off.
