IEC EN 60204-31 applies to electrical and electronic equipment, sewing machines, units and systems specifically designed for professional use in the sewing industry. This standard applies to electrical equipment or parts of electrical equipment operating with rated supply voltages not exceeding 1000 V for alternating current and 1500 V for direct current and rated frequencies not exceeding 200 Hz.
It does not cover all requirements (eg protection, lockout, control) required to protect persons from hazards other than electrical hazards and specified in other standards.
Any sewing system consisting of at least two sewing units not interconnected by means of control systems may have a supply conductor terminal for each sewing unit; however, if failure of one of the units can cause danger, there should only be one supply conductor terminal in the sewing system.
This section covers sewing units and systems that are installed in dry and well-kept clean places and process dry sewing materials, as in the clothing industry. Where sewing units and systems are used outside of dry and well-maintained clean locations, more stringent measures may be required, which must be agreed between the manufacturer and the customer.
Noise emission of electrical and electronic equipment for sewing machines is not considered a relevant hazard. Therefore, this standard does not contain any special requirements regarding noise.
