EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of UL 1283 standard. The UL 1283 standard covers electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters installed in or connected to 1.000 V or less potential circuits, up to 50 – 60 Hz or 1.500 Vdc, and installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.
These requirements cover filters used to reduce unwanted radio frequency signals (such as noise or interference) generated from electromagnetic sources. These filters consist of capacitors and inductors used alone or in combination with each other and can be equipped with resistors. These requirements cover plant filters, wired filters and direct plug-in filters.
These requirements do not cover transient voltage surge suppressors (i.e. devices for repeatedly limiting voltage surges in power circuits such as silicon avalanche diodes, metal oxide varistors, gas cylinders, spark gaps, etc.). Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors are examined under the Surge Protective Devices Standard, UL 1449. These requirements also do not cover EMI filters for outdoor use.
These requirements do not cover direct plug products and wired products with more than two outlets. A direct plug product that uses more than two receptacles and has an EMI filter, Supplementary Plugs and Sockets Standard, UL 498
examined within the scope of requirements for existing faucets. A hardwired product filter that uses more than two receptacles and has one EMI has been studied under the Standard for Replaceable Power Taps, UL 1363. The EMI filter portion of these products will be investigated to determine compliance with the requirements of this standard as applicable.
A component of a product covered by this standard must comply with the requirements of that component. A component contains a property or feature that is not necessary for the application of the component in the product covered by this standard; supersedes a requirement in this standard and is not required to comply with a specific requirement.
Certain components are lacking in build features or limited in performance features. Such components are intended for use only in limited conditions, such as certain temperatures do not exceed certain limits, and should be used only under these specific conditions.
For a filter with integrated overtemperature protection, the following tests must be carried out:
