EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61162-402 testing. This standard series, IEC EN 61162-400 and above, specifies a communication protocol for use in integrated ship systems. It also specifies an interface description language for use with the protocol, a set of rules for the use of that language, and a set of standard interfaces described in the language.

This part of the standard specifies the minimum set of tests that must be performed, the test results to be obtained and the documents that can be used for the realization of all general protocol software and applications that comply with the IEC EN 61162-4 standard. Although this set of standard documents is collectively referred to as IEC EN 61162-4, the actual part numbers are in the 400 series.

Testing and documentation requirements do not cover electrical, physical or environmental requirements that may apply to software or computer use on board. These requirements may be covered by IEC EN 60945 or IEC EN 60092-504. Other standards may also apply.

This standard may not cover all the requirements of classification societies or other authorities. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to ensure that all appropriate regulations are addressed.

This standard includes tests to check whether an application using the IEC EN 61162-4 protocol complies with the advertised interface specification. These tests cannot guarantee the correct functionality of the application in question beyond the possibility of connecting to the network and a limited degree of accuracy in transmitted messages.

This standard does not cover the system using the IEC EN 61162-4 communication standard. Additional requirements will normally apply to the total system configuration.

Test procedures are general in nature and do not usually specify detailed test programs and procedures. Procedures specify a minimum set of functional aspects that must be tested, with the minimum set of stimuli required in some cases and the corresponding required responses. Testers must develop detailed procedures and testing tools themselves.
