This standard is intended to be used for any type of ac or dc drive power supply with any number of outputs, specially manufactured for an unknown end application.
Where power supplies are developed as a component of equipment covered by certain product standards, these standards apply; Additional application of IEC EN 61204 may be useful as an option, especially if the performance characteristics are not adequately covered by the product standard.
It allows specifying a power unit to meet a particular application by specifying parameters at the required performance levels, establishing basic definitions for this type of equipment, and establishing a selection of performance levels. These levels are carefully graded to enable manufacturers and users to select and specify a range of power supply devices suitable for their application.
The output voltages and performance levels of the unit will be specified for each parameter. For a multiple output power supply, performance levels will be specified for each output.
The manufacturer should confirm the minimum load value for the control output on a multi-output power supply required to maintain any other parameter within specification. The nature of each output and, if fixed, its polarity will also be specified or specified.
If loads are defined by the customer, the nominal value of these loads will be used in performance measurements. In all other cases, the output to be measured must be at maximum, the other outputs at 50% of their rated output loads, and the voltage input of the power supply at rated value.
