Films coated on only one side are used as a cover or coating in the manufacture of flexible printed wiring. This coating or coating is also used to provide local support to areas subject to mechanical or environmental stress. Films coated on both sides are used as bonding films in the manufacture of printed cartons.

The adhesive coated film will be free from bubbles and wrinkles. There shall be no defects that would damage the material properties or the intended use. The color of the film should be uniform and should not contain foreign substances. Discoloration will not occur when the film is processed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

The adhesive must be protected with a polymeric release film or release paper that will adhere until lamination. For both-sided adhesive polyester films, an adhesive layer or both must be protected by such release materials.

The appearance of the adhesive-coated film should only be inspected when the release material is present, where the release material is transparent. Where foreign inclusions appear embedded in the adhesive or between the adhesive and the polyester film, the release material should be removed and the coated film reexamined.

Test specimens must comply with the requirements of IEC EN 61189-2. It will be cut from a series of samples prepared by laminating copper foil to the film material being tested. Lamination conditions should be agreed between the buyer and supplier and should follow the material manufacturer's recommendations regarding pressure, temperature and pressing time.
