IEC EN 61249-3-5 Materials for Printed Boards and Other Interconnected Structures - Part 3-5: Non-Reinforced Base Materials - Transfer Adhesive Films

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61249-3-5 testing. This standard gives requirements for transfer adhesive films for use in the manufacture of flexible multilayer boards or flexible-rigid printed boards.

IEC EN 61249-3-5 Materials for Printed Boards and Other Interconnected Structures - Part 3-5: Non-Reinforced Base Materials - Transfer Adhesive Films

The materials consist of adhesive layers based on B-stage epoxide, acrylic or polyester (PET) resin, supported by a removable paper backing and protected by a polymeric release film that will adhere until lamination.

Epoxide or acrylic-based adhesive shall be compatible with copper-clad polyimide films according to IEC EN 60249-2-13 and IEC EN 60249-2-15; polyester (PET) based adhesive shall be compatible with copper-clad polyester films according to IEC EN 60249-2-8.

The adhesive film should be free from bubbles and wrinkles. There shall be no defects that would damage the material properties or the intended use. The color of the film should be uniform and should not contain foreign substances. Discoloration will not occur when the film is processed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

The test specimens shall comply with the requirements of IEC EN 60249-1, except for the peel strength or heat shock test. It will be cut from a series of samples prepared by laminating copper foil to the film material being tested. Lamination conditions should be agreed between the buyer and supplier and should follow the material manufacturer's recommendations regarding pressure, temperature and pressing time. The copper foil used in the manufacture of copper-clad laminates will have a thickness of 35 µm (305 g/m²) and will be applied with the untreated (glossy) side facing the adhesive layer.

For peel strength or heat shock testing, samples will be prepared by laminating the adhesive film with a one-sided epoxide/glass laminate on one side and an uncoated epoxide/glass laminate on the second side. The minimum thickness of the uncoated laminate will be 0,5 mm. In all other respects, sample preparation will be as detailed above.
