In Europe, North America, and Japan, unofficial standards exist for interconnecting satellite reception equipment. They are not similar enough to form a common IEC standard. As a result, it was deemed necessary to prepare three standards.
One of the commands (normally a button) on the receiver or remote control that allows the user to select a programmed transmission channel corresponding to the program sought. With this command, non-volatile memories are associated to store data on the optimum setting of the receiver and generally related equipment in the sought transmission state.
The requirements mentioned above are based on maximum polarizer sensitivity corresponding to 45° rotation and 25 mA current. Due to the varying sensitivity of some polarizer types to the carrier frequency, it is recommended to store the individual current value for each program position in the receiver's memory.
In cases where two or more antennas are required to receive from satellites in different orbital positions, receiver input selection and polarization selection should be separated. Alternatively, a motorized antenna (dish locator) can be used.
