IEC EN 61727 Photovoltaic (PV) Systems - Standard Test for Service Interface Characteristics

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61727 testing. It applies to grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power systems that run in parallel with the grid and use static (solid-state) non-islanding inverters to convert DC to AC. It determines the requirements for the interconnection of PV systems to the grid distribution system.

IEC EN 61727 Photovoltaic (PV) Systems - Standard Test for Service Interface Characteristics

This standard describes specific recommendations for systems rated 10 kVA or less, such as those that can be used in single- or three-phase individual dwellings. This standard applies to the interconnection with the low voltage grid distribution system.

The characteristics of the current supplied by the photovoltaic system to the on-site alternating current loads and the public electricity distribution network are governed by the uses and standards regarding voltage, oscillation, frequency, harmonics and factor power. Deviations from these standards represent out-of-limit conditions and may require de-energizing and disconnection of the photovoltaic system from the grid.

All current characteristic parameters (voltage, ringing, frequency, harmonics and power factor) shall be measured at the grid connection interface/common connection point unless otherwise specified.

PV systems interconnected to the public electricity distribution grid normally do not regulate the voltage, they supply current to the grid. Therefore, the voltage operating range for PV inverters is chosen not as a voltage regulation function, but as a protection function that responds to the abnormal condition of the electrical distribution grid.

To protect against islanding, a grid-connected PV system must stop energizing the utility line from the de-energized distribution line within specified time limits, regardless of connected loads or other generators.
