IEC EN 62108 Test for Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) Modules

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62108 test. This standard specifies the minimum requirements for design qualification and type approval of concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules and assemblies suitable for long-term operation in general outdoor climates as defined in IEC EN 60721-2-1.

IEC EN 62108 Test for Concentrator Photovoltaic (CPV) Modules

The test sequence is based in part on that specified in IEC EN 61215-1 for design qualification and type approval of flat sheet terrestrial crystal silicon PV modules. However, some modifications have been made to take into account the special characteristics of CPV receivers and modules, particularly regarding the separation of in-field and in-laboratory testing, the effects of tracking alignment, high current density and rapid temperature changes.

The purpose of this standard is to determine the electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of CPV modules and assemblies and to demonstrate that CPV modules and assemblies can last as long as possible within reasonable cost and time constraints. The actual lifespan of CPV modules and assemblies thus qualified will depend on their design, manufacture, environment and conditions in which they are operated.

Representative samples will include all components except some repeated parts. Where possible, sub receivers, submodules or subassemblies should be used in representative samples. During the design and manufacture of representative samples, great care will be taken to achieve maximum similarity to the full-size component in all electrical, mechanical and thermal properties related to quality and reliability.

Specifically, the cell line in representative samples should be long enough to contain at least two bypass diodes, but in no case less than ten cells. Encapsulations, interconnects, terminations and span distances around all edges will be the same as for true full size products. Other representative components should also be included and tested, including the lens/mount mounts, receiver/mount mounts, and endplate/lens.

Test specimens should be manufactured from the specified materials and components in accordance with the relevant drawings and process instructions and subjected to the manufacturer's normal inspection, quality control and production acceptance procedures. Every detail must be complete and accompanied by the manufacturer's handling, installation, connection and operating manuals. Samples will not be subjected to other special processing that is not part of standard production.
