IEC EN 62153-4-5 Metallic Communication Cable Test Methods - Part 4-5: Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) - Shielding or Coupling Attenuation Test

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62153-4-5 testing. IEC EN 62153-4-5 is suitable for determining the shielding or coupling attenuation of metallic communication cables in the frequency range 30 MHz to 1000 MHz (2400 MHz) depending on the performance of the clamp. It is an alternative method to the triaxial method of IEC EN 62153-4-4 or IEC EN 62153-4-9. Due to the undefined external circuitry of this absorber clamp method, test results obtained in different locations and laboratories may vary by at least ±6 dB.

The test setup must have a noise floor of at least 6 dB better than the instrument reading required for the value to be reported. This means, for example, that a test with an equipment dynamic range of at least 90 dB is required to measure the coupling attenuation or shielding attenuation to about 115 dB when there is full attenuation of the normal absorber clamp and balun (if any). are taken into account. The sensitivity of any equipment will be better than ±1 dB.

The equipment shall be capable of measuring coupling attenuation or shielding attenuation in the full frequency range from 30 MHz to 1 GHz, unless otherwise specified in the relevant cable specification.

Measurement setup can be performed using a vector network analyzer or alternatively a separate signal generator and selective measurement receiver.

A vertical metallic reflector plate with a height and width of at least 800 mm will be placed in front of the generator. The plate will have a central hole to accommodate the wire under test.

If the absorber clamp hole is smaller than the diameter of the specimen under test, it should be enlarged with smaller lines at both ends. Extension lines should have much better shielding attenuation than the specimen under test. If possible, pipes with external conductors should be used.
