IEC EN 62433-3 EMC IC Modeling - Part 3: Integrated Circuit Models for EMI Behavior Simulation - Radiated Emission Modeling Testing

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62433-3 testing. IEC EN 62433-3 provides a method for deriving a macro model to simulate the radiated emission levels of an Integrated Circuit (IC).

IEC EN 62433-3 EMC IC Modeling - Part 3: Integrated Circuit Models for EMI Behavior Simulation - Radiated Emission Modeling Testing

This model is commonly referred to as the integrated circuit emission model, radiated emission, ICEM-RE. Using the model to model a complete IC with or without an associated package, a functional block of both analog and digital ICs (input/output pins, digital core and supply) and an intellectual property (IP) block intended. measured or simulated data cannot be transferred directly to simulation tools.

The proposed IC macro model will be added to the 3D electromagnetic simulation tools as follows:

  • Estimate the imminent emissions from the IC;
  • The radiated emissions can be caused by neighboring ICs, cables, transmission lines, etc. assess its impact.

This part of IEC EN 62433 consists of two main parts:

  • The first is the electrical description of the ICEM-RE macro model elements;
  • The second part proposes a universal data exchange format called REML based on XML. This format allows the ICEM-RE to be coded in a more useful and general way for emission simulation.

The internal structure of an IC can be divided into two parts:

  • Passive parts, (parasitic resistance (R), inductance (L) and capacitance (C) lines, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection components, pins and bonding that connect the external environment to the internal IC blocks.
  • Active parts (Central Processing Unit (CPU) core, clock system, memory, analog blocks). Our emission sources in an IC are these active internal blocks.

As stated earlier, the ICEM-RE macro pattern is defined in the frequency domain. Frequency terms and units in the model are defined in the Frequency and Unit labels, respectively. The Unit label is a child of Frequency.
