IEC EN 62599-1 Alarm Systems - Part 1: Environmental Test Methods

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62599-1 test. IEC EN 62599-1 specifies environmental testing methods to be used for testing system components of the following alarm systems intended for use in and around buildings:

IEC EN 62599-1 Alarm Systems - Part 1: Environmental Test Methods

  • Access control systems for security applications;
  • alarm transmission systems;
  • CCTV systems for security applications;
  • Combined or integrated systems;
  • Burglar and robbery alarm systems;
  • remote receiving or surveillance centers;
  • Social alarm systems.

Environmental classes include general service environments intended for equipment installed in typical residential, commercial and industrial environments only. It may be necessary for the product standard to require additional or different environmental tests or intensities.

To ensure reproducible test methods and to avoid the proliferation of technically similar test methods, test procedures have been chosen from internationally accepted standards whenever possible. For specific guidance on these tests, the appropriate document specified in the relevant sub-clauses should be consulted. For more general guidance and background information on environmental testing, reference should be made to IEC EN 60068-1 and IEC EN 60068-3.

The purpose of environmental testing is to demonstrate that the equipment can operate correctly in the service environment and will continue to operate for a reasonable period of time. However, alarm system equipment is installed in many very different environments and it would be impractical to test every aspect of the most extreme environmental conditions imaginable.

Therefore, the tests and severity ratings listed in this section of IEC EN 62599 are intended to provide a practical set of tests to determine the equipment's ability to withstand the failure mechanisms likely to be produced by the environment in which such equipment is located. This section includes service environments related to equipment installed in general industrial/commercial facilities only. Therefore, it should be noted that additional precautions may be necessary, particularly in installations where some aspects of the environment can be described as unusually severe. A special extra weight has been added to the cold test to meet the particularly cold conditions in the far north of Europe.
