IEC EN 62637-2 Battery Charging Interface for Small Handheld Multimedia Devices - Part 2: 2 mm Barrel Type Interface Compliance Test

General test conditions are outlined below. Manufacturers should note that actual usage conditions may be more stringent. Tests using this certificate of conformity do not replace any tests specified by EMC, ESD, safety, type approval or legislation on chargers or devices using the charging interface specified in IEC EN 62637-1. The purpose of compatibility testing is to achieve good interoperability between different chargers and devices.

Unless another temperature is specified, all measurements should be made at normal room temperature between 18°C and 25°C. All tests are performed under the rated operating voltage defined by the manufacturer.

The purpose of this test is to verify that the charger complies with the requirements for settling time, minimum voltage and maximum voltage limits specified in IEC EN 62637-1.

The following requirements apply:

  • The maximum charger output overshoot will be less than or equal to 16 V;
  • The maximum reverse voltage at the charger output will be less than or equal to 1 V;
  • The maximum time to reach the steady state value (± 10% tolerance) for voltage and current after load change ("no load"/"normal load") must be less than or equal to 10 ms;
  • With a load current less than or equal to 100 mA, the drop below the maximum output voltage will be 4,1 V.
