IEC EN 62920 specifies electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for DC to AC power conversion equipment (PCE) for use in photovoltaic (PV) power systems.
The PCE covered by this standard can be network interactive or standalone. It can be provided by single or multiple photovoltaic modules grouped in various array configurations and intended for use with batteries or other forms of energy storage.
This standard covers not only PCE connected to a general low-voltage AC mains or other low-voltage AC mains installation, but also PCE connected to a medium or high voltage AC network with or without step-up power transformers.
The power conversion equipment (PCE) for solar photovoltaic power energy systems is indispensable for converting the DC electrical energy generated by solar photovoltaic panels into AC electrical energy and feeding the AC power energy to the AC grid or loads.
PCE is evaluated with EMC requirements as type testing at a test site. This standard provides test methods and test conditions for PCE as well as emission and immunity requirements, but not for the stability of photovoltaic modules and other system components.
When compliance with the EMC requirements at the test site cannot be demonstrated for technical reasons at the test site, the PCE can be evaluated on site, such as at the manufacturer's premises or at the site where the PCE is installed in a PV power system. However, only high-frequency emission requirements are specified in CISPR 11 for on-site evaluation.
