IEC EN 63093-4 specifies the dimensions important for mechanical interchangeability for a preferred RM cores and low profile RM cores made of ferrite, and the positions of the terminal pins in their 2,54 mm compression wire harness.
It also provides guidance on the allowable limits of surface irregularity applicable to RM vessels in accordance with the relevant generic specification. The selection of core sizes for this standard is based on the philosophy of incorporating dimensions that are an industrial standard, either by incorporation into a national standard or through broad-based use in industry. This standard is a useful feature in negotiations about surface irregularities between ferrite core manufacturers and customers.
Looking at the coil former from the pin side, the pins should be numbered clockwise. Pin 1 will be a corner pin or the pin just to the right of a corner and closest to the baseline.
For asymmetrical arrangements, pin 1 will be on the side with the largest number of pins. The coil former should exhibit an asymmetry that is preferably visible (or detectable) when the mounted inductor pins are held down.
These coil formers are designed for use with the RM 6-S, RM 8, RM 10, RM 12 and RM 14A cores, all without center hole. Except for only eight RM 6-S coil formers, each is provided with twelve terminal pins.
