IEC EN 88528-11 Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine Driven Alternating Current Generators - Part 11: Rotary Uninterruptible Power Systems - Performance Requirements and Test Methods

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 88528-11 test. This standard specifies criteria, including performance and test methods, for rotary uninterruptible power systems (UPS) resulting from a combination of mechanical and electrical rotating machinery. This standard applies primarily to power supplies designed to supply uninterrupted ac. When operated without input mains, power is provided by stored energy or a reciprocating internal combustion (RIC) engine, and output power is provided by one or more rotating electrical machines.

IEC EN 88528-11 Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine Driven Alternating Current Generators - Part 11: Rotary Uninterruptible Power Systems - Performance Requirements and Test Methods

This chapter 11 ac power supplies designed primarily to provide uninterrupted electrical power for stationary land and sea use, excluding aircraft, land vehicles or locomotives. It also excludes power supplies where the output power is generated by static converters.

Use of a rotary UPS setup to improve AC quality. The power supply is also described for providing voltage or frequency conversion and peak shaving.

Additional requirements may be required for some special applications (eg basic hospital supplies, offshore, non-stationary applications, high-rise buildings, nuclear, etc.).

The rotary uninterruptible power supply as defined in this standard is achieved by a combination of electrical and, where necessary, RIC motors and generator sets. A pneumatic, kinetic, electrochemical or similar energy storage device is used to obtain an uninterrupted power supply for a short period of downtime. For long periods of operation, a RIC motor or generator set can be used to supply energy.

This performance applies to multi-module rotary UPS systems operating in parallel. The test is performed with at least two units operating in parallel with a linear symmetrical load of at least 1,5 times the rated load of a single unit.
