Evaluation of the EMC characteristics of Ethernet transceivers will be made on a single transceiver IC for the functional operating modes applied under the network condition for the RF emission and RF immunity tests and pulse immunity tests conducted, and for the electrostatic discharge tests.

The purpose of these tests is to determine the EMC performance on the specific pins of the Ethernet transceiver that is considered EMC-related in practice. For an Ethernet transceiver these pins are global pins such as MDIP, MDIN, VBAT and WAKE as well as local pins such as power supply inputs.

If the DUT contains additional product-specific EMC-related pins (functions), it will also be tested. Test conditions and fault verification criteria must be adapted to the definitions for the standard functionality of Ethernet transceivers.

The 150 Ω direct link, DPI and pulse immunity test methods were chosen for the evaluation of the transmitted EMC characteristic of the transceivers in the network condition. Therefore, it is possible to use the same test board for all tests in functional operating mode, which reduces effort and increases the repeatability and comparability of test results.

Amplified ESD testing will be performed using the same approach as testing an Ethernet transceiver under network conditions, except that a modified test board is used due to RF and ESD tests cannot be combined in a single test board if all specific test conditions of each test method must be covered.
