Radio Devices Regulation (RED) 2014/53 / EU Tests

The Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53 / EU replaced the R & TTE Directive 13/2016 / EC on 1999 June 5. EUROLAB can assist you with your Radio Devices (RED) evaluation and testing needs.

Radio Devices Regulation (RED) 2014/53 / EU Tests

"Radio equipment" as defined in the new RED: means an electrical or electronic product that must be complemented with an accessory such as an antenna to intentionally emit or receive radio waves for radio communication or radioodetermination.

The responsibility for the conformity assessment belongs to the manufacturers. The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and EMC Directive do not apply to products that contain radio devices or receive radio signals, regardless of whether wireless devices have been pre-approved. These products should now meet the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) requirements instead.

The new RED modifies the Technical documentation (TF) requirements, increasing the amount and complexity of the required information, including a description of the equipment's impact on the radio spectrum in the end user's locale.

The new Radio Devices Regulation (RED) will have the same technical content. Telecommunications devices will fall under the EMC Directive, but devices previously covered by the EMC Directive will switch to RED (such as broadcast receivers). Also, RED removes the low frequency limit of 9kHz from its scope. Now any transmitting device from 0Hz to 300GHz will be subject to the requirements. RED also includes devices previously exempted from the R & TTE Directive, such as proximity sensors that do not transmit data or information. These devices are now covered by RED.

Documentation changes are many and require different levels of responsibility for "economic operators" defined as manufacturers, authorized European representatives, importers and distributors. These are 11-15 in RED text. It is stated in the articles.

Significant changes from R & TTE Directive to 2014/53 / EU Radio Equipment Directive

  • Article 5 (1) commission will create a mandatory registry for some of these equipment by June 12, 2018.
  • Article 10 (8) instructions and safety information should be translated
  • Article 10 (2) - An explanation of the effect of equipment on the radio spectrum in the target market desired in TF
  • Article 10 (8.) - all manuals and instructions must be translated
  • Article 18 (2.): DoC should be translated
  • New exclusion Appendix I (4.) - Custom-made evaluation kits for the use of professionals only in research and development facilities for such purposes.

EUROLAB can help you determine which directives apply to your product. We can provide the necessary Radio Equipment Directive (RED) assessment and testing to determine whether your product meets the certification.
