Weather-Ometer (WOM) Tests

The WOM (Weather-Ometer) device is based on closed carbon arc technology, a pair of carbon rods that burn an electric arc inside a pyrex glass sphere to increase UV output to provide an oxygen-deficient atmosphere. In the 1940s, an advanced carbon arc technology was developed that provided a closer spectral match to outdoor terrestrial sunlight in the UV portions of the spectrum, and three pairs of rare earth element doped copper-clad carbon rods were used, usually filtered by flat glass filters. This device has been referred to as the open flame or sunlight carbon arc Weather-Ometer, sometimes abbreviated as SWOM.

Weather-Ometer (WOM) Tests

In the 1950s, a low pressure long arc xenon gas discharge lamp was developed. A properly filtered xenon arc provides the closest spectral match to outdoor terrestrial sunlight for interior materials testing or sunlight filtered through window glass. Since carbon arcs are spectrally limited and not a close match to the daylight spectrum, they are not directly equivalent.
Many test methods for most materials today have moved away from carbon arc testing and use xenon arc technology.

Weather-Ometer testing is important for revealing defects in a material and ensuring its durability. At the end of the tests, areas that need urgent improvements are identified. However, there are areas where basic tests are not sufficient. To meet the high quality requirement, extensive Weather-Ometer testing on some materials is required.

Weather-Ometer is specifically designed to perform a variety of laboratory and research tests. Weather-Ometer is essential for performing different quality control tests on various materials such as cement, various electrical fittings, motors, electronic circuits and components and more.

Different types of testing require a different type of environment. Weather-Ometer provides a controllable xenon aging environment test. Thus, the accelerated aging test level in these xenon test chambers can be changed as needed.

The Weather-Ometer is easy to install, only proper ventilation is required. Sample placement and evaluation is quick and easy with easily removable sample holders. It is fully automatic and can work continuously.

Our organization also provides Weather-Ometer (WOM) testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
