Light Transmittance (EN 167 / ANSI Z87.1)

The EN 167 standard, which is a European standard, describes the light transmission properties and test methods within the framework of personal eye protection. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 167 Personal eye protection - Optical test methods.

On the other hand, ANSI Z87.1 Eye and face protection devices standard has been published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) within the same scope. This standard helps to eliminate eye and face hazards in working environments. For this purpose, it describes the criteria and conditions for the selection, use and care of different face and eye protectors to introduce the most effective materials and usage methods.

European standard EN 167 describes optical test methods for eye protection, the requirements of which are in other European standards. Non-optical test methods are included in EN 168 standard, features in EN 166 standard and definition of terms in EN 165 standard.

Gray tints should be recommended for eyeglass lenses for general use, because gray reduces the visible light transmission in the spectrum. Polarized lenses are also used under these conditions.

Whenever there is a risk to the eyes, the eyes should be protected. Goggles are very diverse and are designed to counteract various risks such as splash, impact and light filtering. UV rays from the sun are one of the biggest risks to the eyes.
