Light Refraction Difficulty (EN 167)

The EN 167 standard, which is a European standard, describes the light refraction difficulties and test methods within the framework of personal eye protection. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 167 Personal eye protection - Optical test methods.

Light Refraction Difficulty (EN 167)

Optical power is the value of a lens, mirror, or other optical system to zoom in or out of light. It is also called optical power, dioptric power, refractive power, focusing power or convergence power. Convergent lenses have positive optical power, whereas divergent lenses have negative power. When a lens is in a refractive environment, its optical power and focal length change. For two or more thin lenses close together, such as with glasses, the optical power of the lenses is approximately equal to the sum of the optical powers of each lens.

An eye that has too much or too little refractive power to focus light on the retina has a refractive value. A myopic eye has a lot of power, so the light is focused in front of the retina. In contrast, a hyperopic eye has very little power, so the light is focused behind the retina. Anisometropia is when one eye has a different refractive power than the other eye. These properties are important factors in determining the standards of protective glasses.

EN 167 standard offers test methods for transmission, diffusion and refraction properties. The main purpose of these tests is to ensure that the glasses do not obstruct or impair the user's vision. Also, the glasses must allow sufficient light to enter the wearer's eyes. Thousands of eye-related accidents occur at workplaces every year. Although some of these events are mildly overcome, approximately 10-20 percent of them cause partial or complete blindness.

Eye and face protection equipment for businesses by our organization Light refraction difficulty (EN 167) testing services are also provided within the framework of testing services.
