The EN 167 standard, which is a European standard, describes the light propagation properties and test methods of sunglasses and similar glasses lenses. Eye protection is the most important safety equipment to be used in many situations. In many industries, safety glasses are the minimum protection that should be worn at all times. Besides the goggles, sometimes even a full face visor may be required. Eyes are particularly vulnerable to particles and very bright lights, although they are small targets.

Safety glasses come in many shapes and sizes, but what all suitable safety glasses have in common is that they wrap around the eyes to protect against both front and side hazards.
