EN ISO 8980-1 Ophthalmic Optics - Uncut Finished Eyeglass Lenses - Part 1: Specification Test for Single-Focus and Multifocal Lenses

EN ISO 8980-1 specifies requirements and verification methods for optical and geometric properties for uncut single vision and multifocal lenses.

Optical characteristics should be verified using a focus meter that complies with ISO 8598 -1 requirements. Optical tolerances shall apply at one of the reference wavelengths specified in ISO 7944 at the reference points of the lens.

Lenses should be verified with the back surface of the lens against the lens support of the focus meter. The lens should be centered at the reference point (distance reference point for a multifocal lens). A prism compensating device that corresponds to the sequential or corrective prismatic power and the opposite base setting may be used.

Polarized finished lenses with no other geometric orientation features must include permanent or non-permanent markings on the horizontal meridian to clearly identify the intended horizontal orientation. Alternatively, if manufacturers or suppliers choose to add markings to the vertical meridian of finished lenses to indicate the transmission plane, this should be clearly stated.

Each lens must be free of any imperfections in or on its surface to impair vision. Minor insulating material or surface imperfections that are unlikely to impair vision are acceptable.
