Hydraulic Test

Hydraulic Test

Fluid power systems play a critical role in many industries. It is one of the three main forms of power transmission with electrical and mechanical power systems. However, in most cases, mechanical and electrical methods cannot provide a practical power transmission solution.

Hydraulic Test

In these cases, fluid power (whether hydraulic or pneumatic) is often used because it can provide linear and rotary motion with high force and torque in a smaller, lighter package than is possible from other forms of power transmission.

Some of the most common applications of hydraulic systems are heavy construction and off-highway equipment. Other applications can be seen in aircraft, public transportation systems (such as trains), construction, mining, agriculture, waste reduction and service equipment. The various components (valves, actuators, cylinders, accumulators, etc.) that make up these systems must operate reliably and have a reasonable life.

A comprehensive testing program, carried out only under simulated field use conditions, can guarantee that any component parts or assemblies meet original design goals for performance, reliability and longevity. Many internationally recognized organizations have published test standards applicable to hydraulic / pneumatic and fluid power systems and components.

Some of these organizations:

  • American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
  • International Standards Organization (ISO)
  • Aviation Radio Technical Commission (RTCA)
  • Automotive Engineers Association (SAE)

Hydraulic test it is usually done with the help of complex test systems or test stands. The test stand acts as a source of liquid supply and can be adjusted to supply the required liquid at the flows, pressures and temperatures required for testing.

The test can also be performed in a temperature test chamber to check the ambient temperature surrounding the test product. In some cases, multiple environments such as temperature, humidity, pressure (altitude) and icing can be combined. Test times can take hundreds or even thousands of hours, depending on the requirements of the unit (UUT) being tested. The integrity and safety of the test system should be maintained during the entire test period, while collecting all the data required to validate the test results.
