The focus of the standard is the assessment of contaminants or impurities that are indirectly introduced into drinking water. Products and materials covered include, but are not limited to, process media (eg carbon, sand), protective materials (eg coatings, primers, primers), bonding and sealants (eg solvent cements, welding materials, gaskets).
Tests to ensure compliance range from a simple cold water test using water at different pH levels to more demanding chemical certification. In all cases, equipment is tested before and after exposure to a particular liquid to determine if anything has leaked or been extracted from the equipment.
