EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 352-2 standard. This part of the EN 352 standard describes the requirements for hearing protectors' ability to reduce noise below daily limit levels and presents test methods.
The requirements in this standard are addressed on the condition that the sound attenuation of hearing protectors measured according to the EN ISO 4869-1 standard is not less than the specified minimum value (EN ISO 4869-1 Acoustics - Hearing protector - Subjective method of noise absorption measurement).
In general, the first three parts of the EN 352 standard define hearing protectors and specify their performance requirements. However, some parts of the EN 13819 standard explain how hearing protectors should be tested to meet the requirements of the EN 352 standard (TS EN 13819 Hearing protectors - Experiments). The EN 13819 standard deals with the test methods common to all hearing protectors within the EN 352 series and consists of two parts: physical test methods and acoustic test methods.
The ergonomic aspects of earplugs are evaluated considering the interaction between the user, the device and, if possible, the working environment in which the device is used.
Earplugs are tested for most of the features outlined in EN 352-1 Hearing protectors - General rules - Part 1: Earplugs standard. These test methods mainly include testing for sizing and adjustability, materials and construction, resistance to damage when dropped, flammability and minimum attenuation.
However, there are some minor differences in the test methods in the EN 352-2 standard. Custom molded earplugs are not tested for sizing and adjustability. Also, with reusable earplugs, the specified cleaning and disinfection method is evaluated to ensure that it does not cause a significant change in acoustic performance or material and construction properties.
