EN 352-4 Hearing Protectors - General Requirements Part 4: Level-Based Earplugs

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 352-4 standard. This part of the EN 352 standard is applicable to level-dependent earplugs. Specifies additional structural, design and performance requirements, test methods, marking requirements, and user information related to the inclusion of the level-dependent facility.

EN 352-4 Hearing Protectors - General Requirements Part 4: Level-Based Earplugs

Level-dependent earplugs are designed to provide attenuation of sounds at high levels while providing restoration of external sounds. They can be selected for use in intermittent or instantaneous noise environments and in situations where external warning sounds must be heard. This Standard deals with earplugs with an electronic sound regeneration circuit.

This part of the standard is a specification for type approval purposes in which four sets of sample earplugs are tested. The standard's requirements and tests are primarily concerned with the level-dependent performance of headphones.

86/188/EEC - The specific requirement for hearing protectors with regard to their ability to reduce noise below the daily limit levels set by the Directive "on the protection of workers from the risks associated with exposure to noise at work" is addressed in the standard. In which noise environments the hearing protector can reach the relevant action level set by this Directive.
This standard is needed through the requirement to declare that it can be used without exceeding

For level-dependent earplugs, an acoustic performance test method is required in addition to that described in EN 24869-1 and applied in EN 352-1, EN 352-2 and EN 352-3. Level-dependent headphones must meet the requirements of EN 352-1.

Level dependent earplugs must meet all performance requirements of EN 352-1, including the minimum attenuation requirement in their passive mode.

Four pairs of headphones should be submitted for testing. The individual earcups should be numbered 1 to 8 (or 1 to 4 if level-dependent enhancements are not fitted to both cups of the earcups). If attached to earplugs, new batteries must be inserted for tests.
