ISO 16000-32 specifies requirements for examining buildings and other structures and their technical installations for the formation of pollutants, as a basis for subsequent sampling from suspected areas and for determining the type and amount of contaminants described in other sections.
Investigations on the formation of pollutants in buildings and their technical facilities make it possible to determine the level of pollution (eg polychlorinated biphenyls, asbestos) during the examination (actual situation) and evaluate its impact.
During the review, it should be taken into account that structural changes (e.g. thicker building envelope), hygienic conditions (e.g. ventilation, airflows) and other factors may affect the actual situation being investigated and should therefore be indicated if necessary.
The processing of contaminated construction products resulting from the demolition, partial dismantling and upgrading of buildings is not covered by this part of ISO 16000.
This documentation or information can provide conclusive evidence or indications of the presence of certain contaminants, or even justifications for denying their existence, and serves as a useful tool for subsequent research phases.
The site visit will cover all areas of the spatial presence. Any inaccessible areas shall be clearly identified in the pollution inspection report and the reasons for exclusion shall be stated.
Selected analytical methods will be explained in the research report. In the absence of a standardized method of analysis, reference should be made to the laboratory's internal test specifications or the individual analytical methods described should be specified.
