USP 62 Test for Microorganisms

USP 62 is the method used to determine the presence or absence of objectionable organisms or pathogens in a sample. Both tests are primarily designed to determine whether a sample meets an established specification for pharmaceutical microbiological quality.

The USP 62 test is performed to determine the presence or absence of a specific list of microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bile Tolerant Gram Negative Bacteria, Candida albicans, or Clostridium spp. Compared to USP <61>, the sample is first enriched and then smeared onto the appropriate selective agar based on the above organism(s).
