EN 14348 Test for Chemical Disinfectants and Antiseptics

This standard specifies a test method and minimum requirements for the mycobactericidal activity of chemical disinfectant products which, when diluted with hard water or, in the case of ready-to-use products, form a homogeneous, physically stable preparation with water.

Products can only be tested at a concentration of 80% or less because some dilution is always produced by adding test organisms and interfering substances.

This standard applies to products used in the medical field, including those covered by the EEC/93/42 Directive on Medical Devices.

• In hospitals, community health institutions and dental institutions;
• In clinics of schools, kindergartens and nursing homes;
• It may also include services such as laundry and kitchens that provide products directly to patients.

The described method aims to determine the efficacy of commercial formulations or active substances under the conditions in which they are used. This method corresponds to a phase 2, step 1 test.
