EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 11268-1 standard. This part of EN ISO 11268 specifies one of the methods for assessing the habitat function of soils and determining the acute toxicity of soil pollutants and chemicals to Eisenia fetida/Eisenia andrei through the skin and diet.
It can be applied to soils and soil materials of unknown quality, for example from polluted areas, modified soils, post-improvement soils, agricultural or other related fields, and waste materials.
The effects of the substances are evaluated using a standard soil, preferably a defined artificial soil substrate. For contaminated soils, effects on survival are determined in test soil and a control soil.
For the purpose of the study, the control and dilution substrate (dilution series of contaminated soil) should be a non-contaminated soil comparable to the soil sample to be tested (reference soil) or a standard soil (eg artificial soil).
Information is provided on how to use this method to test chemicals under temperate and tropical conditions. The method is not applicable to volatile substances, ie H (Henry's constant) or substances with an air/water partition coefficient greater than 1 or a vapor pressure exceeding 25 0,013 Pa at 3°C. This method does not take into account possible degradation of substances or contaminants during testing.
