ISO 16000-13 Indoor Air - Part 13: Determination of Total Polychlorinated Dioxin-Like Biphenyls and Polychlorinated Dibenzo-P-Dioxins-Dibenzofurans - Aggregation Test in Sorbent Supported Filters

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 16000-13 testing. ISO 16000-13 specifies the preparation of sampling and sampling media for dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in indoor air.

ISO 16000-13 Indoor Air - Part 13: Determination of Total Polychlorinated Dioxin-Like Biphenyls and Polychlorinated Dibenzo-P-Dioxins-Dibenzofurans - Aggregation Test in Sorbent Supported Filters

The method includes a sampling procedure that collects PCBs and PCDFs/PCDDs from the air on a fine particle filter supported by a sorbent trap. The method cannot be used to separately identify gaseous PCBs and PCDFs/PCDDs and particle-related ones because some compounds will evaporate from the filter and be collected by the sorbent trap. ISO 16000-13 does not address the analytical methods for PCBs, PCDDs and PCDFs contained in ISO 16000-14.

The different sections of ISO 16000 describe the general requirements for the measurement of indoor air pollutants and the measurement procedures themselves, as well as important conditions that must be observed before or during sampling of individual pollutants or groups of pollutants.

This part of ISO 16000 is applicable to the collection of dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) from indoor air and to the preparation of the required sampling medium for sampling . The same sampling methods described herein can also be applied to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) composed of two or more fused aromatic rings. Procedures for the preparation and extraction of sampling medium for PAHs and for the analytical determination of PAHs are given in ISO 12884 and are therefore not included here.

PCBs are emitted into indoor air mainly from concrete insulators, certain paints or electrical capacitors, all of which have been banned in recent years. The main sources of PCDDs/PCDFs in indoor air are impurities in wood preservatives containing pentachlorophenol (PCP) and emissions from fires containing chlorinated products. Tracked soil and emissions from nearby landfills and abandoned industrial sites can also contribute to PCBs and PCDDs/PCDFs in the indoor environment.
