EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of the AOAC 955.17 standard. This test is used to evaluate the fungicidal activity of a disinfectant. In this test, Trichophyton mentagrophytes was cultured and resuspended to obtain a typical mycelium-producing fungal sususpore; however, the method can be modified to meet the needs of the study sponsor.
The test usually begins by arranging the dilutions of the test substance in ascending order and placing it in a circulating water bath to help standardize the test temperature. A certain portion of the fungal conidia (spore) suspension is then added to each dilution of the test substance.
After the study sponsor's specified contact time, a portion of the suspension is removed and placed in a neutralizing growth medium and incubated for approximately 10 days at the appropriate temperature for fungal growth. After the 10-day incubation period, the tubes are scored to assess the highest dilution showing fungicidal activity.
