EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 4045 standard. This standard specifies a method for determining the pH and difference figure of an aqueous leather extract. It can be applied to any type of leather.
By preparing an aqueous extract from the test part of the skin and measuring the pH of the extract using a pH meter, the pH value of a ten-fold dilution of the aqueous extract is also determined in cases where the pH obtained is lower than 4,00 or 10,00.
It is preferable to purchase a commercially available standard buffer solution for measurement recommended by the pH meter manufacturer. The duration of storage of buffer solutions depends on their composition and method of use. Checking the correctness of the buffer solution is therefore indispensable.
Calibrate the pH meter with up to two buffer solutions: at least one below expected value and at least one above expected value. When the pH meter is standardized, both of these buffer readings should be within 0,02 pH units of the correct reading.
