IEC 60754-2 specifies the apparatus and procedure for determining the potential corrosiveness of gases released during combustion of materials from electrical or fiber optic cable structures by measuring the acidity (pH) and conductivity of an aqueous liquid.
The general method specified in this standard is designed for testing individual components used in a cable construction. Formulas are given for calculating a weighted value for a combination of materials contained in a specified cable.
Use of this method will provide verification of the respective requirements for individual components or combined components of a cable structure specified in the appropriate cable specification. Where it is necessary to demonstrate compliance with a specified performance requirement for quality control purposes only, a simplified method for testing individual components is included.
