OECD 301B uses respirometry to determine the biodegradability of material by assessing CO28 production in a liquid environment for a minimum of 2 days.
The OECD 301B test method can be used for materials that are highly soluble, slightly soluble, or even known to be insoluble at certain concentrations. Common materials tested with OECD 301B include fuels, lubricants, oil, surfactants and personal care products. Formulations and other solutions can also be tested with the 301B.
For a product to be classified as readily biodegradable, it must meet the ready-made biodegradability requirements specified by the method. This generally applies to all OECD 301 readily available biodegradability test methods.
