Sulfonamide Analysis (Antibiotic)

The sulfonamides are a group of antibiotics related to sulfa used to treat bacterial infection and some fungal infections. Sulfa drugs kill bacteria and fungi by interfering with cell metabolism. In addition, administration of other sulfonamide drugs is avoided in patients with severe allergic reactions to sulfonamide antibiotics. Sulfonamide drugs may only be prescribed in patients with mild reactions if there is no alternative, and the patient is monitored for signs of reaction.
