IEC 62716 Photovoltaic (PV) Modules, Ammonia Corrosion Test

EUROLAB, together with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC 62716 testing. Photovoltaic (PV) modules are electrical devices intended for continuous outdoor exposure throughout their lifetime.

IEC 62716 Photovoltaic (PV) Modules, Ammonia Corrosion Test

Highly corrosive wet atmospheres, such as the environment of farm barns, can eventually degrade some of the PV module components (corrosion of metallic parts, degradation of some non-metallic materials such as protective coatings and plastics, assimilation of ammonia), causing permanent damage that may impair their function and safe operation.

IEC 62716 describes test sequences useful for determining the resistance of PV modules to ammonia (NH3).

Except for the bypass diode functionality test, all tests included in the arrays are fully described in IEC 61215, IEC 61646 and IEC 61730-2. These are combined in this standard to provide tools for evaluating potential failures in PV modules when operating under wet atmospheres with a high concentration of dissolved ammonia (NH3).

The purpose of this test is to verify that the bypass diodes of the test samples remain functional after exposure to ammonia. Modules without bypass diodes may not perform this test.
